Strasburg man charged in fatal motel shooting

A Strasburg man is facing felony charges following a fatal shooting Sunday morning at the Ramada Inn in Strasburg.
Lucas Scott Ward, 34, of the 500 block of Thompson Street, has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and abduction following his arrest Sunday.
According to a news release, members of the Strasburg Police Department responded to a call of a shooting inside the Ramada Inn at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday. A witness notified officers that the suspect, later identified as Lucas, was still inside the room with a female. The witness said his friend, Corey Patrick O”Neil, 42, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, had been shot in the face.
Strasburg police officers along with Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Department deputies proceeded to the room, and made entry after hearing a female screaming inside. The female victim was being held against her will.
The officers subdued Ward and located the shooting victim in the room. O’Neil was pronounced dead on the scene with one gunshot wound to the head. O’Neil’s death is the first homicide in Strasburg this year.
Strasburg Police Chief Tim Sutherly had no comment Sunday evening. According to the news release, the investigation is ongoing and the charges against Ward may change pending the outcome.
