Traffic outlook for this week
Daily Staff Report
Look out for southbound left lane closures on Interstate 81 this week, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., the left lane between mile markers 280 and 273 in Shenandoah County will be closed for guardrail upgrades and shoulder paving through Jan. 2015.
According to Marshall Herman, a VDOT representative, the upgrade has nothing to do with the state’s plan to remove guardrails produced by Dallas-based Trinity Industry. Plans are underway to replace Trinity-produced guardrail ends due to safety concerns.
In Warren County, expect delays along Route 340/522 from Duck Street to 17th Street as the Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification continues. Daily lane closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures between 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Through traffic will take a detour at North Royal Avenue and 17th Street.
For commuters taking I-81 in Shenandoah and Frederick counties between mile markers 264 and 324, keep an eye out for road crews removing debris and brush along the shoulder of the road between 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Commuters on Interstate 66 in Warren County can expect to see the same between mile markers zero and 15 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
