State police looking for hit and run driver

Virginia State Police are seeking the driver of one of four vehicles involved in a four-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 81 at mile marker 311 around 6:20 a.m. Friday.

State police Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler said the crash began with two vehicles stopped in traffic for another accident up ahead at mile marker 305. A 1996 Ford Explorer came from behind and struck the rear of a 2008 Toyota Prius that was in the left lane. Around the same time, another unknown vehicle struck a 2014 Ford Fusion that had been stopped in the right lane, Tyler said.

The unknown vehicle left the scene, Tyler said.

Tyler said the driver of the Explorer, Catherine Ruth Williams, 21, of Winchester was taken to Winchester Medical Center, where she was treated for minor injuries. Williams was charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended driver’s license, Tyler said.

Anyone with information about the fourth vehicle, which is believed to be heavily damaged, is asked to call trooper A.W.Backus at 829-7771.
