Contest to determine best Christmas display

This month those Christmas lights could pay for themselves.

Front Royal residents with Christmas decorations and lights are invited to submit photos of their houses in the town’s first ever Holiday Lights contest.

The winner of the contest, chosen by votes on the “Town of Front Royal” Facebook page, will receive a $100 utility bill credit. The second place winner will receive a $50 credit, and the third place winner will receive a $25 credit.

Front Royal Town Manager Steve Burke said this is the first year the town has extended this kind of competition to its residents.

“We determined the town will become a little more proactive in sponsoring these types of events in our community,” he said.

The competition is open to all Front Royal residents. The deadline to submit photos is Dec. 24, and the deadline for voting is Dec. 31.

So far, Burke said the town has only received six submissions, but he is “hoping to get more” before the Dec. 24 deadline.

“We do list their addresses, both on Facebook and the mobile app,” Burke said, “so our residents can use it as a guide to tour the decorated homes.”
