Parades in Strasburg, Front Royal rained out
Christmas parades in Strasburg and Front Royal have been canceled and postponed, respectively, in advance of the heavy rainfall expected to batter the area Saturday.
Strasburg’s Christmas parade scheduled for Saturday has been canceled due to inclement weather, said Rich Orndorff, president of the Strasburg Chamber of Commerce.
He said the parade will not be rescheduled.
“We’ve been watching the forecast all week, hoping it would change,” he said. “With it saying there’s nearly a 100 percent chance of rain tomorrow, it just creates logistical problems, problems with the PA system and several entries with children. We’re pulling out for safety reasons.”
Although the parade is canceled, the other events scheduled for Strasburg’s “Home for the Holidays” Christmas celebration will go on.
A grand opening of Hangouts Grill at 10:30 a.m. and a grand reopening of E. Pearls Garden and Antiques at 11:30 a.m. will occur as scheduled, as well as a business open house from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Strasburg Mayor Tim Taylor will light the Christmas tree by Town Hall at 5 p.m., followed by caroling from the Sandy Hook fifth grade chorus and a visit from Santa Claus inside the fire station.
The Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce has announced that the town’s Christmas parade is rescheduled for 4 p.m. Dec. 13.
The ‘Tis the Season events scheduled in New Market on Saturday will go on as planned, said Brittany Clem, the town’s event and marketing director.
The Christmas parade is scheduled to move along Congress Street beginning at 5 p.m.
“We’re going forward with it in case the weather stops in time for the parade,” she said, “and we’re keeping our fingers crossed the rain will move a little bit earlier.”
