VDOT says to look out for lane closures

The Virginia Department of Transportation is alerting motorists about overnight lane closures in the area Sunday through Wednesday.

VDOT will be conducting sign structure inspection on signs hanging over the roads on Interstate 81 in Frederick County and Interstate 66 in Warren County. Sandy Myers, a VDOT spokesperson, said the inspections are “standard maintenance procedure.”

“We do this kind of thing throughout the year,” Myers said. “We have contractors go out and check the signs for fatigue and wear, particularly the bolts.”

In Frederick County, there will be alternating lane closures for the inspections from 8 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday on I-81 on the northbound side near exit 300 and on the southbound side near mile marker 304.8. The intersection of Routes 50 and 522 will also have alternating lane closures in both east and west bound lanes from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Motorists should also look out for west and eastbound lane closures for bridge inspections at the intersection of Routes 37 and 522 in Frederick County.

In Warren County, expect westbound alternating lane closures for sign inspections on I-66 at exits 1A, 1B and 6 from 8 p.m. Monday to 5 a.m. Tuesday.

VDOT is also asking motorists to be aware of road crews performing removing debris and repairing fences along I-81 from mile markers 264 to 324 Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
