Man charged in shooting incident
Shenandoah County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Maurertown man and charged him with several offenses linked to the firing of a shotgun into the air.
Aaron Matthew Branham, 31, of 157 High View Drive, Maurertown, was charged with two counts of malicious assault, reckless handling of a firearm, brandishing a firearm and public drunkenness.
Capt. Wesley Dellinger of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the 150 block of High View Drive in Maurertown on Dec. 27 after someone reported a disturbance.
“When deputies arrived, they found Mr. Branham in the front yard and basically, he didn’t comply with deputies’ verbal commands,” Dellinger said. “They ended up making an arrest. He appeared to have been under the influence of alcohol.”
Dellinger said deputies determined that the disturbance had involved a dispute between Branham and his father at Branham’s residence.
“Prior to the deputies arriving, (Branham) had discharged a shotgun into the air, and he had also sprayed pepper spray into [his father’s] face,” Dellinger said.
Dellinger said deputies recovered a 20-gauge shotgun at the scene and are attempting to verify Branham as its owner.
No one required medical treatment.
Branham’s bond has been set at $5,000 secured. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 29 in Shenandoah County General Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
