Mount Jackson police chief placed on leave

Mount Jackson Police Chief J.D. Fadley has been placed on administrative leave without pay, according to Town Manager Kevin Fauber.

In a news release issued today, Fauber said this action was taken by the Mount Jackson Council at its meeting on Tuesday night “based on new information from the criminal complaint” filed by Amy Atkison.

Atkison, 33, obtained a protective order against Fadley following some alleged unwanted meetings with him between Dec. 23 and Friday. The order was issued Friday evening and ended Monday night.

Fauber told the Northern Virginia Daily on Tuesday that Fadley, 42, had been reprimanded and his firearm was taken on Friday after being served with the protective order by the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office.

Fadley, who returned to work on Tuesday after the order expired, will now be on leave “pending the review and inquiry into the facts of the criminal complaint,” the news release states.

Police Sgt. Jeff Sterner has been named acting chief of police for the town.
