Strasburg woman dies in crash

A Strasburg woman died in a single-car crash on Route 55 in Warren County early Monday morning.

Samantha Dawn Green, 24, of Strasburg, was sitting in the middle of the vehicle’s back seat and was not wearing a seat belt when the single-vehicle crash occurred at 12:20 a.m. Monday about a tenth of a mile west of Route 616, according to a news release from Sgt. F. Tyler of the Virginia State Police.

Green died at the scene as the result of injuries sustained in the crash.

The vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, was driven by Katrine Nicole Leith, 31, of Edinburg. Three other occupants of the car were Michael Leith, 34; Amanda Dawson, 26; and Michael Freeman, 38.

The release states that alcohol does not seem to have been a factor, but notes that “driving too fast for conditions contributed to crash.”

The vehicle spun off the road, went down an embankment and overturned before striking a tree.

Katrine Leith, who has been charged with reckless driving, was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital and treated for injuries.

Virginia State Police trooper C.P. Maddox investigated the crash and was assisted by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Commonwealth Attorney Office, local fire and rescue squads and the state police crash response team.
