Strasburg town council votes to extend contract
STRASBURG — The Strasburg Town Council has voted unanimously to extend the construction period on the new department of public works building.
Tuesday night’s vote extended the contract length with Wendell Construction, the project designer, and English Construction, the builder, by 42 days. It also allowed the companies to extend the contract by a day per month if construction is delayed by four or more days due to weather.
Construction of the 18,000-square-foot facility at the North Shenandoah Industrial and Business Park was delayed by six weeks last spring in order to demolish the old building, which had a cracked foundation.
Jay McKinley, the interim town manager, said the delay occurred due to excavation behind the old structure before demolition.
The council also voted to accept the 2015 meeting calendar. The next Town Council meeting will be Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
