Firm rated among best Va. workplaces
Edward Jones, a nationwide financial service firm, has been named the second best large company to work for in Virginia by Virginia Business magazine.
Virginia Business magazine worked with the Best of Companies group of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to produce the ranking of the 100 top places to work, divided into 20 large businesses, 17 medium sized businesses and 63 small businesses, based on the number of employees.
The ranking was compiled through anonymous surveys among employees, measuring the companies’ corporate culture, benefits and employee satisfaction.
Edward Jones has 230 branches across Virginia. Bret Hrbek, a financial advisor for Edward Jones in Front Royal, said his 15 years with the firm is testimony to how pleasant the working environment is.
“The culture of the firm is very family focused, it allows us to have an incredible amount of freedom to own our day,” Hrbek said. “It allows us to help people to save for retirement, to help put their kids through college … not only does our firm treat us well, but we get to help people.”
Hrbek said the company does not engage in “pressure sales” on certain financial products and allows him to focus on services he wants to provide.
“As long as the branch is profitable, legal and ethical, Edward Jones lets me run the business how I want to run it,” Hrbek said. “If I want to help a certain demographic, if I want to focus on one kind of investing, I have the ability to decide that.”
Hrbek added, “At the end of the day, the month or the year, if I am running a legal, ethical and profitable business, Edward Jones gives me that ownership of the day.”
Hrbek said the firm offers services for investors of all stripes, big or small.
“What’s wonderful is our platform works for the little guy and very high net worth people,” Hrbek said. “We’re here for people who recognize they want financial help and people who want individual, personalized attention.”
The firm ranking on the top places to work in Virginia is a reflection of how well the firm treats its employees, Hrbek said.
“What I think it shows is we are very proud of who we work for, because this is a great place that treats our family and us as well,” Hrbek said.
