New officers join police

STRASBURG – Town Police Chief Tim Sutherly has filled two of three job openings created by the sudden departures of several department veterans in late November and early December.

Sutherly said he has hired two new officers, Tyler Lloyd and Cody Meade, both of whom have been on patrol since early January.

Sutherly said both have completed training at a state-approved criminal justice training academy. Meade previously worked on the security staff at the Winchester Medical Center and Lloyd graduated from college with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Sutherly said.

Lloyd and Meade were hired weeks after the Deputy Chief Jerome Robinson retired and investigators Larry Crum and Amy Atkison left the department for reasons Sutherly has refused to discuss.

The investigator vacancies were filled internally, which opened up the two patrol officers’ positions.

Sutherly said he has no plans to fill deputy chief’s position for now.

“We’re still in the evaluating process to see what our needs are,” Sutherly said. “We’re not in any rush to fill it.”
