North to vie for court clerk seat
Rhonda S. North plans to run for Warren County Circuit Court Clerk.
North announced her intentions Monday to run as an independent candidate for constitutional office in the Nov. 3 election. Longtime Clerk Jennifer Sims does not plan to run for another term when she retires in December.
“I think Jennifer Sims has done a good job over the years in the position and I think I could equally [do] as good a job as she has done,” North said.
Town Councilman and local attorney Daryl Funk announced last month that he intends to run for the clerk’s seat.
North, 50, and town clerk of Middleburg since 2007, has more than 25 years of experience in management and administrative support for municipalities and private organizations, budgeting and supervising personnel. North held positions for Front Royal from 1987 through 2005, including Town Council clerk. North also served as the acting town manager for six months in 2004 and 2005. She served as the executive director of the Front Royal Downtown Business Association and ran her consulting firm North of Downtown.
“When I heard that she had announced her plans to retire and that the position would become available, I just felt like my qualifications and, with my experience, that I would be good for the position,” North added. “I spoke with some folks around town and they seem to agree with me, so it prompted me to throw my hat in the ring.”
North is a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and the Virginia Municipal Clerks Association since 1988. North holds an associates degree in management from Lord Fairfax Community College and earned the master municipal clerk designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
North and her husband, Steve, live in Front Royal.
