Police: Robber used online ad to lure victim

Front Royal police arrested a 17-year-old boy Monday and charged him with offenses linked to an armed robbery involving a Craigslist advertisement that was used to lure the victim into buying an iPhone from him.

Front Royal Police Chief Norman Shiflett said the defendant pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the victim when they met to complete the transaction on Friday. The suspect took the cash meant for the iPhone and fled on foot, Shiflett said.

Detectives contacted the suspect and set up a meeting with him Monday that was followed by the execution of a search warrant in the 600 block of Randolph Avenue. Police recovered a black BB gun, an unspecified amount of cash and the suspect’s identification, all in his bedroom, Shiflett said.

The suspect was charged with robbery, use of a gun in the commission of a felony and grand larceny.
