Public schools closed a third day

Public schools around the region announced closures for a third day this week, after snow moving through the Northern Shenandoah Valley Monday afternoon into Tuesday dropped an average of 3 1/2 inches. Up to an inch of snow is expected today.

Schools in the counties of Clarke, Frederick, Page, Shenandoah and Warren will remain closed Wednesday. Winchester Public Schools will be open as usual.

Early announcements on Tuesday afternoon had Clarke and Shenandoah schools on two hour delays. Clarke cited continued weather conditions in its decision to close, and Shenandoah cited the expectation of early afternoon snow.

Temperatures are expected to remain at or below freezing today, with snow showers likely, the National Weather Service reported.
