Warren man found dead near pond

A Warren County resident was found unconscious in a pond near his home on Wednesday afternoon.

Donald Leroy Brown, 73, was pronounced dead of yet unknown causes after being transported to Warren Memorial Hospital.

“We responded at 1 [p.m.] with [Warren County] Fire and Rescue,” said Warren County Sheriff Daniel McEathron.

Richard Mabie, chief of Warren County Fire and Rescue, noted that crews were only on the scene for about 4-6 minutes “at most.”

Crews found Brown lying face down at the edge of a 30-foot pond.

“He was found at one of the shores, probably in about 18 inches of water,” Mabie said.

According to Mabie, Brown was “working alongside the pond” and that people who were “with him or familiar with what he was doing” made the call to dispatchers.

Mabie explained that, before the call to dispatch, “it had been an hour and half before anyone had seen him.”

Upon arrival, Mabie said, “[Crews] pulled him from the water and immediately began CPR and other life-saving techniques.”

However, Brown never regained consciousness as crews “worked on him” as he was being transported to Warren Memorial Hospital.

Mabie said, “We have not gotten an official determination from the medical examiner’s office over what the cause of death was.”

Despite the unknown cause of death, McEathron said, “there is no reason to believe that any foul play occurred.”
