Three arrested in drug bust
A drug bust in Woodstock late Monday night led to the arrest of three people and the seizure of what authorities believe to be almost 2 ounces of heroin.
Law enforcement officials identified the defendants as Dazhon Garland, 27, of 1282 South Ox Road; Tyasia Garland, 29, of Lakeview Drive and Ian Bailey, 29, of Jersey City, N.J.
Each of the defendants was charged with possession of heroin and distribution of marijuana. Dazhon Garland also faces a charge of distribution of marijuana dating from 2014.
Maj. Scott Proctor of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office said law enforcement officials found a vehicle in the parking lot of Woodstock Square shopping center on West Reservoir Road at about 9 p.m.
Proctor said an arrest warrant had been issued for Dazhon Garland in 2014 on a charge of selling marijuana. All three defendants were in the vehicle and were arrested without incident, Proctor said.
Proctor said a trained police dog detected the possible presence of drugs in the car.
“The canine alerted to the vehicle and, in a subsequent search, deputies found 50 grams of heroin and a quarter pound of marijuana,” Proctor said.
Fifty grams of heroin is equal to about 1.7 ounces. Proctor said the street value of the heroin was estimated at $8,000.
A later search of Dazhon Garland’s home yielded 1 gram of heroin and $3,000 cash, Proctor said.
Dazhon and Tyasia Garland are siblings, Proctor said. Tyasia Garland was released from jail early Tuesday morning on $10,000 secured bond. Dazhon Garland is being held without bond and Bailey remained in jail Tuesday afternoon on $2,000 secured bond.
