Man shot, killed by deputy is identified

Virginia State Police have identified the man shot by a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputy during a domestic incident on Friday.

Christopher A. Prevatt, 38, of Winchester, died at a residence on Gregory Place in the Regency Lakes subdivision in Frederick County after 5 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.

“When the sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and entered the residence, he encountered a male subject who was subsequently shot,” the news release stated.

The deputy, the release stated, called for medical treatment following the shooting, but Prevatt died at the scene.  An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas.

The release stated the woman at the residence and the deputy were not injured.

The state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Culpeper Field Office’s Police Shooing Investigative Team is conducting the incident at the request of the Sheriff’s Office.
