Warren County taps new finance director

FRONT ROYAL – Warren County will have a new finance chief.

County Administrator Douglas Stanley announced Tuesday the appointment of Mary Kathleen Ault Dellinger as the new finance director. Dellinger begins her employment July 1.

“She had those qualities we were looking for in our next finance director,” Stanley said Tuesday afternoon.

Dellinger replaces Finance Director Carolyn Stimmel, who retired at the end of April after 15 years of leading the department. Stimmel has stayed on part-time to help with the transition. Dellinger will make a yearly salary of $80,181. Stimmel received a salary of $96,726 at her retirement.

Dellinger worked as an accounting manager for the town of Leesburg from 2008-2014. Dellinger’s experience in local government involved planning, organizing and directing financial operations; financial reporting, internal control review and recommendations; and budget and audit preparation. Dellinger recently worked as an accountant for the Center of Concern in Washington, D.C. Dellinger also has a background with nonprofit organizations such as Project Hope in Millwood and World Relief in Baltimore.

Stanley has stated that Dellinger brings many qualities to the county agency that include her familiarity with the budget and audit processes, the daily operations of a finance department and knowledge of municipal accounting.

Dellinger graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. She holds a bachelor of science degree in science from George Mason University and a master of business administration from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Dellinger is enrolled in the Organizational Leadership doctoral program at Shenandoah University.

Dellinger has been a certified public accountant since 1991 and a certified global management accountant since 2014. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Governmental Finance Officers Association.
