Bearing the torch

Runners hit the pavement along Route 11 north of Strasburg on Tuesday morning during the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. Winchester City and Frederick County officers started on the Loudoun Street Mall in Winchester and ran south to the Shenandoah and Frederick County line at Cedar Creek. Runners from Strasburg carried the torch from the county line to the Old Mill Grill Restaurant in town. Wednesday's leg will start in Woodstock and go to New Market. The eight-day torch run involves more than 2,000 law enforcement officers and personnel representing more than 200 law enforcement agencies across Virginia and will end in Richmond. Rich Cooley/Daily
