Grand opening of DICK’S Sporting Goods this weekend

DICK’S Sporting Goods is holding a grand opening celebration this weekend for its new location at 1675 S. Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester. Beginning Friday, there will be three days of giveaways, product demonstrations, activities for attendees and a appearance by a former Washington Redskins player.

Doors open at 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.

According to a news release from the company, the first 100 people in line on Friday will receive a free Reebok Play Dry T-shirt. On Saturday and Sunday, the first 100 adults in line will receive a gift card ranging in value from $5 to $500.

Guests who arrive early, by 7:45 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and by 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, will get a chance to open the DICK’S Sporting Goods Gift Locker.

On Saturday, from noon to 2 p.m., former Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley will be in the store to meet fans and sign autographs.

The store is located on the site of the former Kmart, which closed its doors in June 2014 after nearly 26 years at that location.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, the new Winchester location is the 29th DICK’S Sporting Goods store in Virginia and 617th nationwide.
