Antique cars to visit Edinburg

A multitude of polished antique vehicles will park at the Edinburg Mill from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday for the 2nd Annual Edinburg Antique Auto Show.

Edinburg Town Treasurer Michelle Heier organized the event to benefit the Mill last year and said attendance at the town’s first official car show was astounding.

“For 75 cars to show up for your first event, that’s really amazing,” she said. “So we decided to make it an annual event.”

Antique cars from Harrisonburg up to Maryland and West Virginia turned out for judging and prizes last year. Although Heier said 14 participants have pre-registered so far, she expects an even larger turnout this year.

The show is limited to antique cars manufactured before 1990, and car registration will be $15 the day of the event until 11 a.m. Attendees without a car will be admitted free to enjoy the atmosphere created by the antique cars and oldies music played by a live disc jockey.

The registration fee will also include an armband for free entry into the Edinburg Mill Museum, which will be open all day. All proceeds will go to the Mill and the first 100 entries into the show will automatically receive goodie bags and dashboard plaques.

One car will be selected for the Mill Choice Award trophy and participants will vote to nominate 25 cars to win additional awards. Heier encourages entrants to show up early in order to submit their vote before the 12:30 p.m. cut off time.

In addition to the contest prizes, a flower arrangement inside a 1968 Ford Crown Victoria hubcap will be raffled off during the show.

“It’s a really pretty arrangement and pretty sizable because the hubcap is huge,” Heier said.

Concessions by Rutz Backyard BBQ will be available during the show and the mill will serve hand-dipped ice cream. Heier said the quaint and beautiful atmosphere of the Edinburg Mill makes for a picturesque Sunday morning gathering.

“I think the biggest draw is the setting of the show,” she said. “It’s a nice setting.”
