Man charged with arson, burglary and vandalism
A Harrisonburg man has been charged with arson and six other counts stemming from an investigation into a residential burglary in October.
The defendant, Edward Lee Roadcap Jr., 55, is also facing two counts each of burglary, vandalism and larceny connected to incidents at a residence in the 100 block of Pheasant Ridge Road in late October 2014.
Capt. Wesley Dellinger of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office said deputies dispatched to the residence on Oct. 23 found the interior in shambles.
“The deputies arrived and found extensive damage to the residence with combustible materials and gas poured inside,” Dellinger said.
Dellinger said damage to the residence, which belonged to an acquaintance of Roadcap, was estimated at $25,000 as a result of gas being poured on combustible materials throughout the interior.
Dellinger said he had no information available on the nature of the dispute between Roadcap and the occupant of the residence.
Dellinger said Roadcap was indicted in Shenandoah County Circuit Court on June 5 and arrested by deputies without incident on July 22.
Roadcap is being held without bond at the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail while awaiting the scheduling of a court appearance.
Dellinger said the indictment against Roadcap was delayed by several months while the state crime laboratory analyzed evidence gathered during the investigation.
