Father charged with shooting his daughter in face

Allen Julian Whitehead Jr.

Front Royal police have accused a town man of shooting his daughter in the face Wednesday night.

Officers arrested Allen Julian Whitehead Jr., 53, of 710 Washington Ave., and charged him with felony charges of unlawful wounding, reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling, according to information released Thursday by the police department.

Heather Nicole Wilson, 32, suffered a gunshot wound to the face and remains in stable condition at UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville with non-life threatening injuries, according to police. Wilson’s address was not immediately available Thursday.

Whitehead is being held at Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail without bond pending an appearance in Warren County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court scheduled for Sept. 10.

Officers responded to the 700 block of Washington Avenue for a report of a shooting. Officers found Wilson lying in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the facial area. Warren County Fire and Rescue workers treated Wilson at the scene then transported her to Winchester Medical Center. She then was transferred to the UVA Medical Center.

Police detained and questioned Whitehead, later identified as Wilson’s father. Police would not say Thursday if officers recovered a firearm used in the shooting or any other items from the scene.

Police are calling the incident an isolated, domestic matter between the parties involved. The case is still under investigation. Sgt. Crystal Cline would not answer questions for additional information Thursday.
