Amerigas donation will help purchase books

AmeriGas has donated over $200 to Stonewall Jackson Middle School’s library.

Library media specialist Lisa Gibson said the school’s reading incentive program requires students to read two days a week.

“We want them to find books they enjoy and books at their level,” Gibson said. “Some students who think they hate to read just need to find a book that is not intimidating and is interesting to them.”

Students who love reading also suggested books they would like to see in the library, Gibson said. The AmerGas donation will go toward buying books on the students’ wish list.

“AmeriGas has supported our school for several years. They support several schools and community organizations through the use of ‘School Days’ receipts,” Gibson said.

She explained that when customers hand in their receipts to chosen organizations, they “give back” a percentage of their bills to that organization. Amerigas donates that percentage.

“Amerigas has been so supportive,” Gibson said. “Even when we do not have many donations, they will collect the receipts that come in attached to the bills.”

“The Mount Jackson office really looks out for us,” Gibson added.
