Assault in Front Royal leaves man unconscious

A man is recovering at Winchester Medical Center with head injuries sustained from an assault in Front Royal on Tuesday evening.

Police say Martin Hancock was assaulted at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday outside of Advance Auto Parts on North Commerce Avenue.

Hancock sustained injuries on his head and face as a result of the assault and was unconscious on the ground when police arrived. He was then transported to Winchester Medical Center.

Sgt. Crystal Cline of the Front Royal Police Department said police are still gathering information about the incident.

“We weren’t able to get a good statement from Mr. Hancock so we’re going to go back over,” she said.

She said that although Hancock hasn’t been released from Winchester Medical Center yet, she believes he is recovering after the assault.
