Food Lion to stock shelves of area food pantry

WOODSTOCK — Keep the Change Food Pantry will have its shelves filled this month by Food Lion.

The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank is a partner of Keep the Change and got the Woodstock pantry involved in the grocery store chain’s donation program, according to pantry Director Donna Orndorff.

She said she couldn’t be happier about the news, adding that this donation will be a tremendous help to the food pantry and to the local community.

“It’s going to make a big impact,” Orndorff said Wednesday.

Keep the Change food pantry got a call a month ago about being selected.  On Sept. 10, Food Lion will be deliver and stock the pantry shelves with over $2,000 worth of food that includes canned vegetables and fruits, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, oatmeal and collard greens.

Food Lion representatives will stock the shelves as the pastor and other members of My Church at Abba’s House assist in the placement and distribution of the various foods.

This contribution from Food Lion will allow the pantry to feed more hungry stomachs, Orndorff said.

“It’s impossible to keep our shelves full,” she noted.
