Warren County Chamber hosts candidates forum
The Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce will host a forum next Tuesday for candidates in the Nov. 3 election.
The organization scheduled the event for 7 p.m. in the Warren County government center, 220 N. Commerce Ave., Front Royal. The event is free and open to the public.
The chamber is accepting questions for consideration. Those who wish to submit questions for consideration may do so by email to email@example.com or in writing to the chamber office at 106 Chester St. All suggestions will be submitted to the chamber’s legislative committee for final approval. Candidates will not know the questions in advance, Executive Director Niki Foster said Tuesday.
“First and foremost, we want to use these forums to educate the public so they understand what each of the candidates represents and what their thoughts and positions are on the things that matter to our community and the residents,” Foster said. “What we won’t do is have personal attacks and that sort of stuff so we try to keep strictly to issue-based questions.”
More than 20 candidates are seeking local and state offices in this year’s election in Warren County.
The chamber invites candidates in contested and uncontested races, Foster said. Contested races are the North River and Shenandoah districts on the Board of Supervisors, the South River District for the School Board, the clerk of the circuit court, commissioner of revenue and the 26th District in the state senate. Candidates running in uncontested races can make brief statements at the beginning of the forum.
The director said she’s heard from almost all candidates running in the Nov. 3 election who have confirmed plans to participate in the forum.
