Shenandoah County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Mount Jackson man Thursday on charges of burglary and wearing a mask to conceal his identity after he allegedly entered a neighbor’s house and asked an occupant for sugar.

Capt. Wesley Dellinger of the Sheriff’s Office identified the defendant as Robert Frank Shenk, 54, of 1245 Crooked Run Road.

Dellinger said Shenk entered the home, which was occupied by a 16-year-old girl, and asked her for an unspecified amount of baking sugar.

“It would be safe to say this would be a neighbor,” Dellinger said of the home’s proximity to Shenk’s residence.

Dellinger said Shenk, who entered the house without force, left after the girl gave him the sugar.

Shenk was released on bail Saturday from the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Dec. 10 in Shenandoah County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
