Three injured in house fire
Three people were hospitalized after a fire extensively damaged a home at 1491 Macedonia Church Road in Stephens City on Wednesday night.
Fire and rescue units from numerous jurisdictions were dispatched to the scene at about 8:45 p.m. Flames were seen in the front of the one-story house as crews arrived at the scene.
The Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department Office of the Fire Marshal reported in a written statement that one civilian was taken to a hospital by helicopter and two others were taken by ground transport. The fire marshal’s office said one of the occupants remained “under medical care” as of late Thursday afternoon.
A neighbor rescued one of the occupants of the burning house before firefighters arrived, the fire marshal office said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fire and rescue units remained at the scene for about four hours extinguishing the fire and performing salvage and overhaul operations.
Fire and rescue crews from Stephens City, Millwood Station, Middletown, Greenwood, Winchester, Warren County, Strasburg, and AirCare helicopter transport responded to the scene. The Frederick County Fire and Rescue Battalion 10 duty officer and the department’s chaplain corps also participated in the operation.
