Fire destroys garage, contents inside
A fire destroyed a garage and attached building early Sunday afternoon at 2143 Minebank Road around Strasburg.
Shannon Walters, a staff member at the Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue, said the fire burned up a tractor and vehicle inside the two-bay garage and also consumed a pile of hay that was stored in a lean-to structure attached to the garage.
“From what I understand, there wasn’t anything left of it,” Walters said of the garage and lean-to structure.
Walters said she had no information on what caused the fire. No injuries were reported. Walters said the garage was used as a storage facility.
Walters said the fire was first reported at 12:52 p.m. and Frederick County emergency communications notified Shenandoah County that the garage was engulfed in flames at 1:06 p.m.
Walters said firefighters started cleaning up the site and returning trucks to their stations at about 5 p.m.
A third structure, which Walters described as an outbuilding just north of the garage, was scorched by the fire.
Fire and rescue companies from Toms Brook, Shenandoah County Department of Fire and Rescue, Middletown, Star Tannery, Strasburg and Warren County Fire and Rescue Services were involved in efforts to contain the fire, Walters said.
