Man charged with malicious injury
A Mount Jackson man has been arrested and charged with malicious bodily injury in an incident that authorities said involved a mother and her young child.
Maj. Scott Proctor said the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to a report of a hit and run incident in the 200 block of Lakeview Drive in Woodstock at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Proctor identified the defendant as David Franklin Dellinger, 68, of 11381 Old Valley Pike. Proctor said deputies arriving at the scene determined that a woman had suffered bruising to her chest area as a result of being hit by Dellinger’s vehicle. The victim’s injuries did not require treatment or hospitalization, Proctor said.
“The accused, Mr. Dellinger, came to her residence, which is in the 200 block of Lakeview Drive for the purpose of picking up a child,” Proctor said.
No information was available on the age of the child.
Proctor said the victim, the child’s mother, told deputies that she was placing the child in the back seat of Dellinger’s vehicle when Dellinger put the car in reverse, stepped on the gas and struck her.
The woman reported that Dellinger also began driving the vehicle in reverse toward her after she had been hit, Proctor said.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dellinger at his residence without incident at 8 or 9 p.m., Proctor said.
Dellinger is scheduled to appear at 11 a.m. Dec. 22 in Shenandoah County General District Court.
He has been released from custody on a recognizance bond.
