Counties issue local emergencies
Shenandoah County issued a local emergency Friday morning ahead of the predicted snowstorm.
With the declaration, the county plans to set up an emergency operations center at the government office in Woodstock beginning at noon. The declaration will enable to county to qualify for any emergency funds made available from the state or from federal sources. The declaration also allows the county to access mutual aid resources provided around the state.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning from 1 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Sunday, County Administrator Mary T. Price states in her declaration. The storm is expected to deliver approximately 25-30 inches of wet, heavy snow and 30-35 mph winds.
