Man on sex offender list accused of loitering
A Manassas man listed on the state’s sex offender registry has been charged with loitering around children after two girls in the Strasburg Town Park identified him to police.
Strasburg Police Chief Tim Sutherly said in a written statement that officers investigated a report on Sunday that the two girls had been seen around a suspicious man, later identified as Erik Nolan McDowell, 34.
Sutherly said McDowell was in a gray Camaro in the park. Members of the girls’ families were unaware they were meeting McDowell in the park and didn’t know why he would be in Strasburg, Sutherly said.
The Prince William County Police Department served McDowell with an arrest warrant when he arrived back at his Manassas residence, Sutherly said.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be filed, Sutherly said.
