Ruddy takes over county department

Frederick County recently announced that Mike Ruddy would take over as director of the Department of Planning and Community Development.

Ruddy served as the department’s deputy director since 2004.

Ruddy will receive a salary of $115,000. Ruddy replaces Eric Lawrence, who took on the role of executive director of the Frederick County Sanitation Authority in October.

An interview panel that included professional planners from other localities as well as county staff, members of the Board of Supervisors and members of the Planning Commission made the recommendation.

Ruddy has worked in other positions in the department and also served as planning director and assistant town manager for Purcellville.

Ruddy holds a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation management and a master’s in geography and regional planning.
