Whetzel, Koontz reverse roles on Shenandoah School Board
WOODSTOCK – A new chair and vice chair were appointed at the Shenandoah County Public Schools organizational meeting on Thursday night.
R.L. “Rick” Koontz Jr. and Karen Whetzel reversed roles as vice chair and chair of the board.
Whetzel, the District 1 board member and former vice chair of the board, was unanimously selected as the new chair. Koontz nominated Whetzel as the new chair and was seconded by Sonya Williams-Giersch.
Koontz, the District 2 board member and former chair of the board, was unanimously selected as vice chair. He was nominated by Katheryn Freakley and that was seconded by Williams-Giersch.
Also at the meeting, Robin Heishman was appointed as the clerk of the board and Tracy Landes was appointed as deputy clerk of the board. Both were nominated by Superintendent Jeremy Raley.
Newcomer Cynthia Walsh, who represents District 3, was welcomed to the board.
“Welcome Ms. Walsh, officially, to your first meeting,” Raley said.
