State police investigating shooting
Virginia State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday morning in the Clear Brook area of Frederick County.
A written statement by the state police said a deputy from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office returned fire at an armed man who had fired first at the deputy.
The wounded man was taken to Winchester Medical Center for what state police described as a serious but non-life threatening wound.
The incident at a residence in the 300 block of Brown Lane began at about 10 a.m. with a 911 report of an armed individual threatening suicide, state police said. Deputies arriving at the residence found what state police said was an agitated man who fired his gun after deputies tried unsuccessfully to calm him.
The police shooting investigative team from the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Culpeper field office later arrived at the scene to begin trying to determine the circumstances of the shooting.
The investigation was continuing Monday.
