Students team up for suicide prevention walk

Lord Fairfax Community College and Shenandoah University students will be participating in the Out of the Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk on Saturday.

Students will walk in the Shenandoah University Campus Walk, benefiting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Leslie Kelley, communications specialist at LFCC, said around 15 to 20 students will join Shenandoah University students for the suicide prevention walk.

“LFCC’s student activities department, as well as our students, participate in the walk because we believe in raising awareness about suicide and fighting against it,” she said.

“We know the funds we raise during the walk will be used to create educational programs to advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss,” she said.

Thousands of people around the country will be walking on this day in support of suicide prevention.

The local walk will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Shenandoah University in Winchester.
