VDOT to close Morgan Ford Road for bridge project
The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to close part of Morgan Ford Road in Warren County next week to replace the low-water bridge over the Shenandoah River.
Crews will close the section from Howellsville Road to Fairground Road, which includes the Morgan Ford Bridge, starting April 18. Homeowners along the section will have access to their properties.
Contractors began cutting trees and trimming vegetation in the area of the project. Motorists can expect flag-controlled traffic from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily until the road closure.
VDOT’s $4.9 million contract with Orders Construction Company Inc., of Saint Albans, West Virginia, calls for completion of the project by June 1, 2018.
Beginning the morning of April 18, signs will direct motorists on one of the following detours:
Motorists south of the bridge turn right on Howellsville Road, which changes to Va. 603 then Va. 638 in Clarke County. Motorists then turn left on to John Mosby Highway (U.S. 17-50), then left on to Red Gate Road/Milldale oad to reach the end of the detour.
Drivers north of the bridge follow Milldale Road/Red Gate Road north and turn right on John Mosby Highway in Clarke County. Drivers then turn right on Howellsville Road, which changes to Va. 603 and then Va. 643 to reach the end of the detour.
