Accident in Maurertown injures three

Three Strasburg men were transported from an accident on U.S. Route 11 Wednesday afternoon with injuries.

Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler, of the Virginia State Police, said a two-vehicle crash happened at around 2 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. Route 11 about two-tenths of a mile south of Toll House Road in Maurertown.

He said Daniel Spiker, 74, had stopped at a construction zone in a 2004 Chevy Tahoe while headed northbound with passenger Deano Hagerman, 54. A 2007 Kia passenger vehicle driven by Charles Stokes, 80, struck the rear of the other car.

Tyler said all three individuals in the two vehicles were transported with injuries. He said Stokes was taken to Winchester Medical Center, but said he was not certain of where the other two men were taken.

Tyler said Woodstock and Toms Brook Fire and Rescue and the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office assisted state police with the incident. He said an investigation determined that Stokes had been following too closely.
