Wharton Aldhizer & Weaver PLC, a law firm with offices in Harrisonburg and Staunton, was named one of Virginia Living Magazine’s Best of Virginia for 2016.

The firm, the only one selected in Harrisonburg, was named one of the top three best law firms in the Shenandoah Region by readers. The survey, conducted in January, received more than 30,000 ballots covering 100 categories for the best in arts, culture and entertainment, living and recreation, shopping and services and food and drink.


Bank partners with area youth

First Bank & Trust Company partnered with area schools in April to celebrate Teach Children to Save Day. More than 950 students participated in the bank’s savings education activities exploring topics such as the difference between needs and wants, how to identify expenses and ways to cut spending.

“Through this program we can motivate students and instill positive habits at a young age, and financial responsibility for a lifetime” says William H. Hayter, First Bank & Trust Company president and CEO.

The bank also participated in another program, Bank Day, a statewide effort sponsored by the Virginia Bankers Association Education Foundation and the Virginia Bankers Association Leadership Division. High school seniors spent the day shadowing bankers gaining hands-on experience on the importance of good credit, qualified borrowing and appropriate etiquette during a job interview.


REC earns recognition

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative has been named a Tree Line USA utility by The National Arbor Day Foundation.  This is the 14th consecutive year that REC has been nationally recognized, according to a news release.

“We are honored to be named a Tree Line USA utility again this year, REC continues to share the goals of Tree Line USA – achieving healthy forests and reliable electric service through proper planting and pruning,” Keith Forry, REC’s director of vegetation management services, stated in the release.  “Our certified arborists and professional foresters use their expertise every day to balance the demands of providing safe, reliable service with being good stewards of the environment.”

Front Royal dentist Craig Zunka was in Chicago May 5-7 where he taught a class on dento-cranial manipulation for the treatment of TMJ and chronic head and neck pain.
