LFCC Small Business Development Center hires new director
CEO of Top of Virginia Regional Chamber will take over the role
The Lord Fairfax Community College Small Business Development Center has named Christine Kriz its new director.
The Small Business Development Center, which works to support businesses and entrepreneurs in the area, was previously headed by Jim Kraft, who is retiring. Kraft took the position in November 2014.
Kriz, who serves as the CEO of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber, will end her tenure there on Thursday and begin her new job on June 10. Prior to working at the chamber, Kriz, a native of Williamsburg who has lived in the area since 1994, worked with the Office of Workforce Solutions at Lord Fairfax Community College.
“I have met amazing business people while with the chamber,” she stated in an email. “Over 85 percent of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber membership is small business. My experiences with these members have helped to prepare me for this new position.”
Kriz will make the switch from working with local, established businesses to the education and information of potential and current small business owners and entrepreneurs.
“Education and coaching have always been a passion of mine,” she said. “I’m looking forward to helping others succeed… The SBDC works with small business owners and those who desire to go into business to coach, counsel and educate… LFCC is an amazing resource for our community members.”
She noted that she would like to be involved in teaching in addition to her administrative responsibilities, if possible.
“I would like to do both, but I’ll see what happens as I fulfill and carry out the duties of the new post,” she stated.
Kriz lives in Winchester with her husband Bud and their two teenaged children.
