BERKELEY SPRINGS – A 74-year-old Strasburg, Virginia, man died in a single-vehicle accident Thursday after his vehicle traveled off Route 522 and rolled into the woods, according to Morgan County Sheriff Vince Shambaugh.
Shambaugh said the vehicle was traveling southbound and there was no evidence of braking. The vehicle missed a curve and left the roadway, the sheriff said.
“The undercarriage (faced) 522,” Shambaugh said. “The truck was camoflauge.”
Shambaugh said the accident is believed to have happened sometime the previous night. First arriving emergency units reported the truck’s engine compartment was cold.
Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Seth Place is the investigating deputy.
Shambaugh says the cause of the accident is unknown and toxicology results are pending.
The accident was first reported to the Morgan County Central Dispatch at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, according to an emergency dispatcher. The accident occured near the intersection of Route 522 and Fish Hatchery Road.
Emergency units from Morgan County and Frederick County, Virginia, responded to the scene.
