School division to bid farewell to 26 retirees

Shenandoah County Public Schools will say goodbye to 26 employees who have retired or will be retiring by the end of the summer.

Evelyn Linaburg, assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment for the school division, said a retirement reception was held in May and each person received a bell engraved with his or her name and years of service as a retirement gift. The bell is a reminder of the bells that would ring in the schools.

The list of retirees includes six custodians, six teachers, four paraprofessionals, two school counselors, three bus drivers, the supervisor of transportation, two food service workers, the technology support assistant and the school courier/textbook assistant.

Transportation Supervisors Martin Quigley, who is retiring in August after 10 years on the job, said it has been a “long, strange trip in public education.”

“I will have fond memories of how hard the transportation department worked to overcome critically low staffing to ensure that the students, families and the school staff received the safest and most efficient transportation services that could be provided,” he said. “The teamwork and dedication of the drivers, aides, technicians and office staff will always hold a special place in my memories.”

“I will pray for the continued success of this department as it works to provide safe, efficient services for the customers they support,” he added.
