Three arrested on heroin charges
Three Mount Jackson residents will face a second round of drug charges after law enforcement executed a search warrant on May 25.
Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office investigators and members of the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force arrested Rhonda Jean Baxter, William Richard Baxter Jr. and Jerry Edward Weaver Jr. after executing a search warrant at the Baxter home at 148 Bank St. in Mount Jackson.
All three were charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and are scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on June 10.
Lt. Chris Baker, of the Sheriff’s Office, said a search warrant executed at the same address in July 2015 led to the recovery of more than 20 grams of heroin and arrests of all three individuals, who were later released on bond.
He said that while the three were in between court dates, their case was ongoing and law enforcement learned that they were still traveling. After obtaining a warrant on May 17 to put a GPS tracking device on the Baxters’ car, agents tracked the vehicle to Baltimore. Baker said Weaver and William Baxter were the only two in the car for the trip.
Once the vehicle returned to Mount Jackson on May 25, law enforcement again executed a search warrant and recovered 9 grams of suspected heroin, drug paraphernalia, money, six cell phones and unknown pills. Baker said the recovered items are still being processed.
He said that a fourth individual, Fairfax resident Michael Steven Strange, was arrested elsewhere in connection with Weaver and the Baxters. Strange is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah General District Court on June 10 for a charge of conspiring to distribute heroin.
“During this later investigation, we learned that Mr. Strange was a part of the purchases and distribution of heroin that tied into this group here,” he said “He conspired with the Baxters to distribute heroin within Shenandoah County.”
William Baxter and Rhonda Baxter were both already scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County Circuit Court on June 15 for two charges of possessing a schedule I or II drug with intent to distribute and one charge of possessing a gun with a schedule I or II drug. Weaver is scheduled to appear in the same court that day for one charge of possessing a schedule I or II drug and one charge of selling, providing or reselling a schedule I or II drug.
