Cash, drugs seized in Front Royal bust

Law enforcement seized drugs valued at more than $9,000 from a Front Royal residence on June 30 after placing drug-related charges on two men.

Members of the Northwest Regional Drug Task Force charged Robert Crosby, 33, of Front Royal, with two counts of distribution of a schedule I or II narcotic. Kimlia Porter, 37, of Strasburg, received one charge of possession of a schedule I or II narcotic.

Mike Henry, an investigator with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the task force, said law enforcement conducted several controlled purchases from Crosby in the two to three weeks before the operation on June 30. He said search and arrest warrants for Crosby and his apartment at 121 S. Royal Ave. were obtained beforehand.

“They just happened to be outside the apartment and agents with the task force approached them … a brief pursuit occurred and they were taken into custody, and then the warrant was executed,” Henry said.

Henry said Crosby had no drugs on his person when he was arrested, but Porter had about a gram and a half of narcotics on him. He said Porter’s arrest was a result of investigations into Crosby.

“Crosby is out of Manassas and that’s where most of his criminal history is out of,” he said. “To my knowledge, he’s been living here a short time.”

According to state online court records, Crosby has a history of charges in Prince William County from 2002 to 2011. Some of his charges were not pursued or dismissed.

The Front Royal Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Office assisted members of the task force with the operation.

The search warrant led law enforcement to seize around 10 grams of heroin, 36 grams of crack cocaine, 109 grams of marijuana and $3,328 in cash from Crosby’s residence, a release from Front Royal Police Chief Norman Shiflett states. Packaged for resale, the value of all the drugs combined is estimated at $9,600.

Henry said both men were released on bond from Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail. Crosby and Porter’s next court date is scheduled for July 27 in Warren County General District Court.
