Council appoints vice mayor, planning commission representative

NEW MARKET – Town Council held a special organizational meeting Tuesday to appoint a vice mayor and a council representative to the town’s planning commission.

John Blosser, vice mayor for New Market for 12 years was unanimously appointed by council to continue serving that role. All council members except Scott Wymer were present.

Council also unanimously appointed Tim Palmer as the council’s representative to New Market’s planning commission. His term will run concurrently with his service as councilman. Councilman Gary Comer made motions for both Blosser and Palmer.

“The council will elect from its members a person to serve as vice mayor,” said Mike Ritchie, New Market’s town manager. “The vice mayor serves in place of mayor in his or her absence.”

Mayor Douglas Bradley said he looks forward to working with New Market’s new team.

“We’ve got a new team now so we’ve got to ask ourselves, ‘Are we ready for the challenge?'” Bradley said. “We do have a big challenge here in New Market, but I do feel that we have the right team and I think if we can all work together in unity, that we can accomplish what we’re trying to accomplish here in New Market and that is to make this town a great place to work, live and raise our kids, so let’s all work together and get this done.”
