Front Royal drug deal cases continued
Three defendants facing drug charges appeared in Warren County General District Court on Wednesday.
Dion Blackwell, 22, of Baltimore, has received four felony controlled substance charges and one misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. Brett Childs, 25, of Berryville, faces two felony charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Antwan Lucas, 20, of Baltimore, is also facing two felony charges of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and one felony charge of possessing a controlled substance.
Criminal complaints filed in the court describe a controlled heroin purchase arranged for April 2. Front Royal Police Sgt. Kevin Coffman wrote in a complaint accusing Blackwell that Lucas and Blackwell were passengers in a car driven by Childs to the purchase location. He wrote that he saw Blackwell speaking on the phone to a confidential informant about the purchase.
The complaints state that the confidential informant had arranged to purchase 6 grams of heroin for a total of $900 and later, $200 worth of cocaine. After agents with the Drug Task Force detained the three men, Coffman wrote that he located bags of heroin and marijuana on Blackwell, who later procured two bags of cocaine.
Coffman wrote that the three gave authorities conflicting stories. Childs told law enforcement at the time that the other two defendants arrived to his house and offered to pay him to drive them to and from Front Royal.
The court received evidence analysis on July 6 of the items seized. The analysis confirms that the plastic bags contained around 6 grams of heroin, around 1.7 grams of marijuana and almost 2 grams of cocaine total.
All three defendants are scheduled to appear again in Warren County General District Court on Aug. 16. Blackwell was granted $2,500 secured bond.
