Man rescued from overturned ATV

An Orkney Springs man sustained injuries when his all-terrain vehicle overturned on Tuesday.

Roger Harrison, a firefighter with the Orkney Springs Fire Department, was first on the scene of the incident after a call came in at about 12:30 p.m.

Harrison said a 77-year-old man was driving his ATV on private property near Orkney Springs when he lost control of the vehicle and overturned.

Not able to lift the ATV off the man by himself, Harrison said he called for more assistance from the department. He said the scene was cleared by about 1 p.m.

Harrison said the man sustained minor injuries and was taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Harrison said a helicopter was dispatched for emergency transportation but was put back into service because it wasn’t needed.
