Mount Jackson woman indicted on embezzlement charges
A Mount Jackson woman was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury on 19 counts of embezzlement totaling out at $29,650.
Authorities issued a warrant of arrest Monday for Tina Christine Leith, 47, of Senedo Road in Mount Jackson for embezzlement of funds exceeding $200.
According to the criminal complaint, James David Cannon Jr. hired Leith to maintain his books while he was driving a tractor and trailer. In September of 2015, Cannon reported to the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office that Leith wrote 19 checks between April and July of that year to herself from James Cannon’s Farmers & Merchants personal checking account.
As per the same document, Cannon told authorities that when he approached Leith about the checks, she told him she was planning to get money from a settlement and replenish his account before he noticed.
Cannon paid Leith $100 per month for her services prior to the charges, according to the complaint.
Leith is set to appear in Shenandoah County Circuit Court at 9 a.m. Sept. 14.
